Proper preparation for driving is extremely important because it significantly reduces the likelihood of causing a hazard on the road. Driving a vehicle without appropriate knowledge, skills and awareness may lead to dangerous situations that endanger both us and other road users.

Knowledge of road regulations, the ability to respond to emergency situations, the ability to predict the movement of other participants and the technical efficiency of the vehicle – all this affects our ability to drive safely on the roads. Excluding the likelihood of causing a threat means that we are aware of potential threats and can effectively prevent them.

An inadequately prepared driver may make mistakes that may lead to accidents, collisions or even tragedies. However, proper preparation for driving allows us to approach driving with responsibility, prudence and full awareness of our role on the road. Thanks to this, we become safe and competent drivers, which translates into an increased level of road safety.

Preparing for driving – step by step

Step 1 – check documents

The new regulations make traveling easier because you are now not required to carry documents with you. However, in the event of a roadside inspection, you are still required to have important documents such as your driving license, registration certificate and current car insurance. Although there is no longer a need to physically possess them, their absence in the system or other problems may result in a fine or make traveling more difficult. It is therefore important that these documents are current and correctly registered. However, it should be noted that when traveling abroad, you must take the physical documents mentioned above with you.

Step 2 – technical inspection

Perform a thorough vehicle inspection. Check the condition of your tires to make sure they have adequate tread and pressure. Check the brakes, including the handbrake, to see if they work properly. Check the lighting, including the operation of the dipped headlights, the operation of the turn signal lamps, the operation of the rear fog lamps, the operation of the reversing lamps, and the operation of the position and main beam lamps. Take care of the condition of operating fluids such as engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, windshield washer fluid and others. Make sure the battery is working and does not need to be replaced. If you notice any problems, consult a mechanic and repair the faults before leaving.

Before driving, adjust the seat, headrest and mirror settings in your car. A comfortable seat position will help you avoid fatigue during a long route, and properly adjusted mirrors ensure full visibility behind the vehicle.

There is no doubt that road safety should always be a priority. Make sure all passengers are properly restrained with their seat belts, both in the front and rear seats. This is a simple and effective way to minimize the risk of injury in the event of sudden braking or a collision.

How to properly adjust the driver’s seat?

Properly adjusting the driver’s seat is crucial to ensuring comfort while driving and road safety. Before adjusting the seat, make sure the car is parked on level ground and the handbrake is activated.

Start by placing the seat in an upright position so that you have full contact with the backrest and sacral support. Check that you have enough legroom and that your feet reach the pedals naturally and that your knees are slightly bent. Straighten your arms and check that your hands reach the handlebar freely without excessive effort. Then focus on the position of the headrest, which should be at eye level or slightly above. Make sure the headrest is tilted back enough to support your neck and head. The next step is to adjust the mirrors to ensure the best possible visibility. The inside mirror should show a full view of the rear window, and the outside side mirrors should allow you to see as much of your surroundings as possible.

Finally, adjust the handlebar to the appropriate position. It should be set at chest height or slightly below, and the distance from the seat should allow you to maneuver your arms freely without too much extension of your arms. Remember that each driver may have different preferences regarding the seat position, so it is worth experimenting and adapting the position to your individual needs.
